I first met Fawn when she performed at the Miss Plus Top Model Pageant
here in Los Angeles... Since then I have been trying to interview her,
but she is one of the busiest women in entertainment! Every time I
tried to meet with her for this interview she was booked at one red
carpet event or another!
Fawn is a singer/performer who generously gives her time and talents to
raise money for many worthy issues, most notably perhaps for HIV/AIDS
where her single "One Day" raised a whopping $5,000,000! I caught up
with Fawn to find out more about her music and the issues that are near
& dear to her heart...
JJ: How would you describe your music?
Fawn: Thought provoking and from the heart. As a songwriter, I write
all styles of music - jingles, R&B, ballads, pop, jazz, country,
children's, piano compositions, Christian, classical etc. But as an
Artist, I'm currently writing, producing and performing Electronic
Music, in both dance and 'chill-out' style.
JJ: What motivates you to perform?
Fawn: I think it was my desire to communicate with people. I'm a
people person and I want to be able to touch as many lives as possible.
JJ: Your song "One Day" raised over $5,000,000 for children with HIV/AIDS -- that is amazing!
Fawn: What really touched my heart was being able to visit the children
with HIV and AIDS whose families benefited from the proceeds of the
song. I was at the Rainbow House (A house for children with
HIV/AIDS), holding a little girl named Clarisse, age 4 the disease
had ravaged her body, she could no longer speak and her arms and legs
were frozen in a permanent position, but her eyes still held joy.
I picked her up to hold her and she leaned into me with her little
cheek and my eyes welled up, I had to force the tears back down.
JJ: What a powerful experience...
Fawn: knowing that my music had helped pay for that little girls
medical bills, allowing her to live another day longer, THAT was the
highlight of my career and to this day supersedes anything I have done,
including those material or societal standards that are considered a
highlight or an accomplishment.
JJ: What are some of the themes of your other songs?
Fawn: The themes are always from my personal life experiences, inspired
by what I'm going through and the people or the situations around me.
Some of the themes that have touched my life which I've written about
are racism, war, HIV, missing someone, God, losing someone to death,
lost love, believing in yourself, finding your soul mate... you know... the
usual! Ha-ha. I've even written a song about
Broccoli. Don't laugh, it's a children's song.
