Saks In The City's - Sakina, 9/01/2010
by Madeline Jones

Maddy: LOVE,  LOVE,  LOVE your blogs and I love your style? Have you always been a "fashionista"?

Sakina: Well, I've always had a passion for clothes and trends. I remember collecting pictures of outfits I loved from magazines for inspiration. When I was younger, I was not really confident with myself, so I didn't really dare to wear fashionable outfits. I felt bad about being fat so I wore clothing that hid my curves. It was really frustrating until my 20's, I became a little more daring and fashion conscious in the way I dressed. I was getting great feedback so it totally helped me to develop that side of myself. Fashion really helped me like my body and develop a better body image. I stopped hiding.

Maddy: Tell me about when you decided to become a blogger. Why did you decide to begin blogging?

Sakina: Actually in France there are not many options in plus size fashion, so to be a size 18/20 AND to have style is really a big thing! We don't have ANY fashionable plus size stores targeting to younger women (18-30 yr) so it's really hard to find cute and trendy pieces. Curvy girls ask me where I get my jeans, skirt or whatever and always stop me in the streets. So I thought creating a blog would be the better way to share my tips and finds because not everyone is aware of the international fashion options or even that some 'smaller size' stores carry clothes that sometimes run a bit big and can fit a bigger girl.

I also wanted to show what a curvy girl can wear, there are too many girls out there who still think they can't wear mini skirts or skinny jeans and I hoped showcasing my outfits would help some girls dare more things and therefore feel better about themselves. The more you look good in your clothes, the better you feel!

Maddy: How would you describe your style?

Sakina: It's quite classy chic AND casual chic. I love to be dressy with fashionable pieces but I also love casual, laid back outfits. I still have to find a way to make those two styles work together perfectly like my fashion guru Christine Centenera the fashion editor for the Australian Harper's Bazaar.

Maddy: As we approach a new fashion season, what are your fashion tips?

Sakina: Get your hands on a cute jacket ! Fall is the perfect season to wear leather jackets and blazers and they can upgrade any outfit !

Maddy: Do you prefer shopping online or in store?

Sakina: I love shopping in store, I need to try everything on, I have a pear shape and what fits my chest doesn't fit my bottom but unfortunately I can't do that in France so I mostly shop online!

Maddy: Some women have a hard time shopping online, any advice on how to take them from a bad shopping experience to a good shopping experience?

Sakina: I know the feeling, since I too have a hard time. After your first order you get to know what your perfect size for that brand is. Before you place that very first order, reading the size chart of the brand and the blogs/forums feedback is really helpful.
