Diary of My First Tearsheet, 9/01/2009
Last year, after finding myself another casualty of the rece
I made an appointment for a facial at the salon and swore off the Kir Royale's and Mimosa's because I wasn't going to risk having my rosacea act up. Models Monica Harbison and Christa Pryor had shared the importance of practicing poses in front of the mirror in order for the client to have many great shots to choose from. Knowing this would also give me more confidence, I took the advice, struck a pose, and then a few more until I felt comfortable.   Sharon Quinn and Larissa Laurel's articles in PLUS told me all I needed to know about exactly what to pack in my model bag.  As the only full figure woman on the shoot, I needed to make sure I had the necessary foundation and bra that would smooth out any bumps and accentuate the right curves. The stylists were not going to have body armor for me so I needed to come prepared.  This is my body, my image and my responsibility to have what I needed to look my best.

When I arrived at the studio with my model bag in tow, I rode the elevator with a young woman who was a petite model in the shoot. She looked down at the bag and asked if I was going away somewhere.  I cordially smiled, kept in mind I might have to work with her, so I replied I had an event later that evening and packed a change of clothing with a few other items.

The elevator doors opened and I was immediately energized as I walked through the sleek white halls of this modern space.  The ceilings were so high, and the amount of natural light that cascaded into the space raised clarity to a whole new level. I smiled at the staff. It was obvious that this was a group of people who absolutely thrived on their passion for fashion and came together like a well seasoned pit crew. Their enthusiasm permeated the air, leaving it crisp, clean and tangibly vivacious.

There were racks of jeans everywhere, two racks of varied tops covering everything from neutrals to the whole color spectrum.  As any other woman would be, I was drawn to the ground like a magnet looking at the variety of shoes as if I had found buried treasure.  One pair of turquoise shoes cried out to me; the color was like the ocean in St Thomas and they were 5 inches high.  I snapped a photo of them with my cell phone and sent it to my mother and my girlfriends. Their text responses varied from "Don't fall!" to "They are SICK!"
