As the summer gets into full swing, the parties, BBQ's and local
fashion shows begin to happen in NYC. I attended and participated in
the first 'Mix and Mingle' party at Latitude on Friday, June 13th.
I joined Gwen DeVoe, and Qrystal Frazier of Qrystal Frazier Designs to
bring an evening of fun and fashion to NYC. The place was packed wall
to wall with beautiful plus size ladies, their admirers, supporters,
photographers and industry guest.
Qrystal provided us a sneak peak into her current summer line and all I
can say is "WOW". The dresses are soft and feminine and the colors are
vibrant and flattering to all skin tones. I did not have a chance to
chat with Qrystal that evening but I will be having a one-on-one with
her later on this year.
I did however have the opportunity to meet many models face-to-face for
the first time, like our PLUS Directory Member Tiffany who
resembles Carnie Wilson so much I had to take a picture with her!! It
was so great to see familiar faces as well like plus models Christina
Mendez, Asia Monet, Jeannie Ferguson and Roslyn Grate as well as PLUS
staff members Sharon Quinn and Mia Amber Davis.
Since the Directory Editorials have been such a great way to showcase
up and coming models as well as the working models I decided to give
away a "free" one year subscription to the Directory and include the
winner in the next NYC Directory shoot!
We received many submissions and the running was very tight. In the end
Staff photographer Luke Jones, Creative Editor at Large Mia Davis and I
chose Lovern Dore. What we liked about her is that while she is an
aspiring model her pictures reflect her desire to reach the next level.
Her pictures show progression and it was apparent to us that she has
been working very hard to achieve her goals in this industry.
We want to congratulate all the participants – If you are already a
member of the PLUS Model Directory please keep your ports current as
our staff looks to choose the next set of models that will grace the
pages of PLUS.
