When did you decide you wanted to be a plus model?I decided
I wanted to be a plus model about a year ago. I have always been
into fashion and even did some modeling for a few years while in high
school and some of college. At that point I was what you would
consider a "Straight" size model. I always had a thin build but
that was before I was fully developed and filled out. Moving to
Chicago and getting my life together and to the point where I could
actually start to pursue my dream again, I went for it and have not
stopped! Before I started, I was contemplating on starting when I
lost weight but thought why!? I am beautiful just the way I am
and your typical woman is not under a size 12. So I started doing
test shoots and submitting myself to different organizations, castings,
and agencies to get myself, face and name out there. Like I said,
it has been about a year now and so far so good. Now, I want
more! I am ready to take my career to the next level. There
is still so much that I have yet to learn and experience in this
industry but I am a sponge and am absorbing and learning everything I
can. I want to be an inspiration to other plus size women, models
or not, to let them know that you are not defined by your weight or
size. It is all about inner beauty and health. I am a firm
believer that you CAN do anything you put your mind to. You just
have to have to have a plan!
Who are your favorite curvy role models? My favorite curvy
role models are Monique, Queen Latifah, Gwen DeVoe, Sharon Quinn, and
Mia Amber Davis. These women are the figures for success, beauty
and class. Each one has mastered their craft and is still
pursuing and achieving more. They are unstoppable! I admire
their drive and motivation to encourage and inspire and educate women
in the plus size community and industry. We can look up to them
as plus size women and say that "WE" really can make it and there "IS"
a place for us. There is a place for us "thick" chicks!
If you could pick the perfect plus modeling campaign for yourself, who would you want to work for? That
is a tough question. There are so many positive and inspirational
campaigns that portray plus size women as the queens that we are!
I would like to work a cosmetic line campaign like Fashion Fair or
Cover Girl or a clothing line like Igigi, Monif C., Torrid, or Ashley
Stewart. All these brands display your everyday woman and their
beauty and personality. The clothes are flattering, sexy, and
hip! Just because we are bigger does not mean we have to be
hidden behind baggy and out of style and date clothes. We can
keep up with the best and set trends! My personality is outgoing
and live and I would be able to bring life to the products!
What are your dreams, desires and goals as a plus model? As
a plus size model, my dreams and goals are endless! I have been
positioning myself so that I am prepared to receive the ultimate
prize! I want to continue to grow and develop as a person and
stay humble. I would love to get signed with a honest, reputable
agency that will work as hard for me as I will work for them. I
want to be a part of as many campaigns, runway shows, movies,
commercials, etc. that I can. I am hungry and am willing to do
what it takes (within reason) to get to where I am GOING to go! I
have a burning passion for modeling that is indescribable. My
favorite saying is "Success is a journey, not a destination"! I
am willing to take the good with the bad in this business. That
only means that the good is going to be that much better! Another
main goal I have as a plus size model is to educate other plus size
women and models the importance of health and nutrition. Just
because we are larger, does not mean we don't have to take care of
ourselves. If we don't have our health we don't have
anything. I can personally testify about the importance of what
you put in your body as it relates to how you feel emotionally,
spiritually, and your over all well being. Not to mention your
physical appearance including hair, skin and nails.
Name your favorite store to shop for curvy clothes in your hometown...
I really don't have a favorite place to shop for my clothes.
I shop everywhere! As long as it looks good on me I'm
satisfied. Some places I go to more than others are JCPenney and
Ashley Stewart. I go to Layne Brant sometimes but mainly to see
the "Thick" mannequins! I love it! It's about time! I
love accessories, purses, shoes. I am very girly.
