Ever dream of going to a place where you are not only accepted as
the size you are but celebrated for it? Well such a place exists in
Long Beach, CA. Club Bounce, run by Lisa Marie Garbo is the place to be
if you want to dance the night away and feel super sexy doing it.
Bounce is a club that caters to larger men and women as well as the men
and women who find them attractive. In the past , I have gone to a few
similiar clubs but I wasn't quite sure what to expect at Bounce. I was
in for a treat! Firstoff- this club was absolutely packed with men and
women of all shapes and sizes who were dancing and having lots of fun.
I have been to similiar clubs but never experienced one that gets
everything right. The vibe is great. You feel safe. Great music. And
ladies there are lots of gorgeous men to go around. I have been back
several times in the past few weeks and will undoubtedly going back for
more. It is my great pleasure to introduce you to the phenomenal Lisa
Marie Garbo who created and currently runs Club Bounce.
Jennifer Jonassen: Tell us about Club Bounce...
Lisa Marie: Well Club Bounce has certainly taken on a life of it's own!
It's all about size acceptance: women feel desired, men are happy and
you really have to experience it to understand.
Jennifer Jonassen: Very true. What inspired you to create Club Bounce?
Lisa Marie: I went to other similar clubs and was inspired. I decided I
wanted to own a club and do it the best way possible. Bring it up a
notch. Make it classy & diverse. I went through several names for
the club! (laughing) Club Deluxe etc...It was hard to find a name that
said larger without saying fat. I like bounce because it sounds fun!
Jennifer Jonassen: What do you think of the term plus size?
Lisa Marie: I think the term is very OK. It is standard to grasp and non offensive. Simple.
Jennifer Jonassen: What words do you use to describe your size?
Lisa Marie: Plus size, curvy, voluptuous. And hey- fat is not a bad word anymore!
Jennifer Jonassen: Very true. I was most impressed with the turn out
you got on Saturday night. Wow! You were turning people away!
Lisa Marie: I know! It's like Studio 54!
Jennifer Jonassen: (laughing) I do have to admit I felt very cool being on a list and getting in!
Lisa Marie: Who would have thought a club for big girls would be so successful and popular?
Jennifer Jonassen: I have been to several similar clubs in N.Y., San
Diego & Los Angeles and I have to say this was the most impressive.
What do you think is the secret to your success?
Lisa Marie: I listen to the people who come and I truly care. And I stay consistent.
